Operating and Capital Expenses - City / DDOT
page 3

Both city and suburban public bus systems have many bus routes that run with limited hours and service. This is due to the necessity of serving large areas with diverse travel and employment patterns. The limited bus routes are connected to the frequent ones for fast transfers.*

* The problem of long tranfers is solved by the logisitics of using state CTF fuel taxes for all costs along the backbone routes as like they are interstate freeways. Since they serve the same purpose of moving people and can reduce traffic, then it makes sense to use the same funding mechanisms. The use of fuel taxes for transit remains practical and does not interfere with other tax mechanisms such as sales and property when properly implemented and agreed upon.
